Japan Desk

Japanese companies, financial institutions and NGOs have a long history of substantial investment in Cambodia and Myanmar and we have had the privilege of working with such entities to provide solution-oriented legal services. A list of our most active Japanese clients is set out below.

BNG Legal understands that the needs of a particular client will depend on the business culture that exists in its home country. BNG established its Japan Desk to ensure that it tailors its services to the needs of Japanese clients. For our advisers, the Japan Desk acts as a central resource for training and information regarding doing business in Japan and enables our advisers to:

  • Understand the nuances of doing business in Japan and the way in which Japanese clients prefer to receive legal services;
  • Receive updates on legal and market developments in Japan so that they can appreciate differences between Japan and the jurisdictions in which our Japanese clients do business; and
  • Assist our Japanese clients establish in connecting with relevant Japanese entities that we have connections with in Cambodia and Myanmar.

The advisers that comprise our Japan Desk have substantial experience of working with Japanese clients and have over 10 years of combined experience working in Japan. Mr. Patrick Smith has worked for a Japanese law firm in Japan (Atsumi & Sakai and Hogan Lovells). In addition to providing legal services to Japanese clients, we are able to assist Japanese clients with translations to and from Japanese and several of the advisers on the Japan Desk are fluent in Japanese.
